They are called the
Continent Islands because it was argued that the largest island on
the chain, Arcor, is large enough to be a continent, while many
others disagreed and called it an island because the other eight
islands lining up behind it. So a compromise was reached and the
chain was named the Continent Islands.
There are nine islands in the chain:
- Bellua
- Baratum
- Roznova
- Incaendium
- Portentium
- Carnific
- Torto
- Contrariet
- Arcor
The islands increase in
size from Bellua, the smallest, to Arcor. Each island has a special
characteristic that renders it virtually uninhabitable.
- BelluaThe smallest island on the chain. Inhabited by monsters with no name. They are nameless because no one has been brave enough to navigate the island to study them.
- BaratumSurrounded by a number of toxic gasses.
- RoznovaEvery ten minutes, this island is surrounded by a large ring of fire, causing the water around the island to boil constantly. This is also the island on which the Mystery Miracle Worker is located.
- IncaendiumThe gravitational pull is particularly stronger and everything is either bent towards the ground or is heavier than normal. Also, rain comes down hard enough to injure inhabitants and cause significant damage to other things.
- PortentiumThe plants are predators that eat everything, including each other.
- CarnificThe water supply is acidic and one can sometimes see blood flowing in the rivers and streams.
- TortoHas its own atmosphere and everything on the island is frozen, including the ocean around it inside the atmosphere.
- ContrarietAt night, all of the plant-life glows neon and eating any of it will cause one to go mad and attack anything and everything around him/her, until dawn breaks.
- ArcorThe largest island on the chain. Also the name of the single city that expands as big as the island, which also happens to be the largest city in the world. There is not law on Arcor. Also a common port for pirates.
